Growing in an parsi family, Jehangir Ardeshir Sabavala studied at the sir J.J.School of Art and graduated in 1944 Jehangir Sabavala’s paintings are serene and quiet in nature, his paintings depict a depth and solitude where human figures appear in a tiny form. Sabavala works most often in oils, creating landscapes, Sea Scapes and figures deftly with his brush, and has recently begun to paint cityscapes as well. This Modern Artists. Due to his academic training in Europe, Jehangir Sabavala’s artistic style was a blend of cubism and Impressionism, adapted to India’s vibrant colours and landscapes. He took inspiration from a wide range of subjects, amongst them nature was dominant. Sabavala trekked along the Western Ghats of India to absorb nature and depict in his distinct style. Having a Philosophical bent of mind, he also used to paint human figures clad in black or white robes against dramatic landscapes. These figures were wanderers, often depicted as monks, set on the journey of life. Jehangir was married to Shirin Dastur, whom he met at the London School of Economics.
