He studied at Serampore College, Bengal. Later, he got a Diploma from the Government College of Art and Crafts, Calcutta. He also worked as a teacher at the Mayo School of Art in Lahore after graduation. During partition, he came to Delhi. He died on 9th Jan 2003. Experience: Between the years of 1953 and 1960 he was a teacher at the Delhi Polytechnic. From 1960 onwards, for eight years, he held the position of Secretary of the Lalit Kala Academi. He has exhibited widely both in India and abroad. He was a participant at the Salon de Mai, Paris (1949), the Tokyo International Arts Exhibition (1961), and Wounds, Centre of International Modern Art, Calcutta and National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi. He represented India at the Biennales of Venice (1953) and Sao Paulo (1961).
