Shakya was born in 1949 in Bhongaon, in Uttar Pradesh, he is a Chitra Visharad. He is a self-taught artist having a poetic representation of art. He give his paintings a natural and a powerful appeal. The Canvas flooded by golden-yellow leaves which is featured by tiny stick figures almost drowned within the confusion of Natures Flow. The artist was honored by the President of India in President House in 2007; the Kala Guru Samman by Kaalankan Prayas, Dhanbad, in 2003; the Camlin award for the Northern India Professional Artist Exhibition, in 2001. He was also awarded the 2nd All India Lokmanya Tilak, Pune; and AIFACS, New Delhi, in 1997. He has held several solo shows and group shows across the Country. His works has been included in many group shows in Ahmedabad, Gujarat; Lucknow Regional Centre, Lucknow; Rabindra Bhawan, New Delhi; Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh show; Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi; Bajaj Art Gallery, Mumbai. His paintings are, to a very large extent, inspired by the power of nature. His unique colour play coupled with fantastic brush strokes set him apart and give his paintings a natural and a powerful appeal. Shakya gives his creative best to his paintings making them masterpieces of sorts. His palette is usually restricted to earthy greens, reds, blues, purple. His originality is in his way of seeing and painting, and producing an aesthetically satisfying picture. R S Shakya completed his Bachelors degree from Prachin Kala Kendra, Chandigarh.
