Lives and works in New Delhi. As a son of Maqbool Fida Husain, the celebrated early Indian modernist, Shamshad had to struggle against the immediate and powerful influence of his father to create his distinct style. He was commissioned to do murals and sculptures. In 1969-70 he did two murals in Jaipur and Delhi, a monumental sculpture of a scientist in Hyderabad in 1981, a sculpture in fiberglass. Husain's schooling began at the M S University of Baroda. There was immense freedom of experimentation, and there were no walls between students and teachers." After graduating from Baroda, Husain went on to London's Royal College of Art. His first solo exhibition took place in 1968. Apart from that, there were several other shows like 1964 Exhb. at Geneva, Switzerland. In 1964 he participated in the Gujarat State Exhibition. He has been awarded Lalit Kala Academy's National award in 1983.
