Deepak Tandon is a 38 year old Delhi-based contemporary abstractionist; an artist who is very sensitive to the myriad textures and forms that surround human life. He sums up his point of view in the following artist statement. Deepak Tandon's subtle colour palette, consisting largely of translucent traces of grey-black against washes of sandy, pastel shades, seems to draw from the textures of weathered walls and antique patented surfaces. While he occasionally enjoys experimenting with splashes of pink, sunny yellows and subdued oranges, his surfaces diligently map the inexorable unraveling of time, scoured by the inevitable processes of aging, and decay. Tandon often uses wasli, a laboriously crafted handmade paper made out of several sheets of paper glued together and rubbed until shiny and smooth. Traditional Mughal miniature paintings were customarily made on wasli. EDUCATION: This self-taught artist was a student of law and business management, who left the course for the love of art.
