Jayasri Burman
ABOUT
Burman works mainly in watercolor, using rich strong hues and bold themes with a mythic element—strange hybrid animals with human heads, female figures.

Born in 1960
Jayasri Burman is a contemporary Indian artist born in 1960 from Kolkata, India. Jayasri`s closeness to Nature has also reflected her in works. Jayasri`s latest oeuvre reveals unconscious suspended energy that can find its parallel in the environs of Santiniketan, where she studied. If she expressed a tranquil sanguine feel in the images she reflected two years ago, this time her vehicle of expression is the dance of color. Her concern for women is quite evident in her paintings. She studied at the Kala Bhavan in Shantiniketan, and at the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata. She then went to Paris to study printmaking under Monsieur Ceizerzi.
