Satish Gujral was born in Jhelum, Punjab, in 1925. Gujral has been internationally acclaimed for his multi-talents of painting, graphics, sculpture, murals, architecture, and interior design. Gujral organized shows of his sculptures, paintings, and graphics in many cities across the world such as New York City, New Delhi, Montreal, Berlin, and Tokyo, among others. Satish Gujral was also an architect and his design of the Belgium Embassy in New Delhi was selected by the international forum of architects as one of the finest buildings built in the 20th century. In 1939, he joined Mayo School of Arts in Lahore, to study applied arts. He moved to Bombay in 1944 and enrolled in Sir JJ School of Art. In 1952, he got a scholarship to study at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, where he was apprenticed to the renowned artists Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros. The period of 1952 to 1974 saw Satish Gujral organizing solo shows all over the world. The shows featured his sculptures, paintings, and graphics. The cities in which he organized his shows include Mexico City, New York, New Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta, Montreal, Rome, Berlin, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, and Stockholm. Since the late 1980s, paintings and sculptures of Satish Gujral have shown a greater expansion, both in terms of materials as well as the content. In 2014, Satish Gujral displayed some of his creations at the India Art Fair. The artworks were his collection, created between the 1950s up until 2013. A total of 26 paintings and sculptures were put up for sale. Satish Gujral has received the following awards in recognition of his vital contribution to the field of art.
