Born in Bangladesh, Singh is a figurative modernist, known for her surrealist creations. She attended school of Art, Delhi Polytechnic in Delhi 1954-1959. Later, she worked for Indian Government’ Cottage Industries Restoration; during which she came across many folk artists. In 1970’s her work is dominated by the Black-white abstracts. In 1980’s she painted Bengali folk paintings and soon her practise drastically incorporated oil on canvas as medium. She conveys her subjects enriched with reductionism and rhythm.
